About

Experienced Auckland draftsman

Looking for a knowledgeable, experienced draftsman? I’m Phil, an architectural designer based on the North Shore, Auckland.

Why work with me?

  • Practical designs – I create designs that are feasible to build within your budget and likely to gain council approval to make sure your project runs as smoothly as possible
  • Attention to detail – I’m efficient, precise and thorough, always listening to you carefully and ensuring no detail is missed
  • Personal service – you’ll work directly with me and I never contract work out to other designers, so you won’t end up with someone inexperienced working on your project
  • Honest advice – I provide straightforward feedback and suggest alternatives if needed, always prioritising your vision
  • Functional design – I focus on both aesthetics and technical performance, ensuring your home looks good and is enjoyable to live in

My experience

I’ve been involved in architecture since 1975, when I started my career as a draftsman at the Ministry of Works.

While living in Sydney for two years, I worked for Meldrum Burrows Architects. After returning to New Zealand, I worked for Hames Sharley and Booth Sweetman Wolf Architects.

I established my own business in 1994 and have been self-employed since then.

During my career, I’ve worked on nearly every type of building imaginable: airport terminals, schools, defence buildings, service stations, shopping centres and hundreds of residential projects throughout New Zealand and Australia.

A legacy of design

I’ve always been fascinated by architecture. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps and become an architectural designer.

My father Lawrie, one of the founding members of ADNZ, ran his own architectural practice for more than four decades. He designed many notable buildings on the North Shore, including the Milford Marina and Thunderbird Tavern.

Professional affiliations

Since 1997, I’ve been a member of ADNZ, an organisation representing New Zealand architectural designers and architects.

From 2011 until 2018, I served as secretary and vice-chair of the Auckland/Northland region.
As an active ADNZ member, I regularly participate in professional development seminars to learn about new products and continue building my knowledge.
